Whale Watch

Dusty & Becca Whale Watching... the tiny splash behind us is from a whale

Magen's work took their employees on a whale watch and there were some extra seats so we got to go! Very cool!

We were onboard a 50+ ft. sail boat, complete with drinks and snacks. It was awesome. Since Maui is known as one of the world’s great whale watch locations, famous for humpback whales that migrate here for the winter and spring calving season... we were in for quite an adventure. Infact, the little splash behind us in the photo above is actually a Humpback Whale... how about that! We saw lots of whales and their babies, a few whale tails wave to us, and not to mention some sea turtles swam right up next to the boat.

Thanks for inviting us, Magen!!! We had a great time.

1st Day on Maui

Our 1st Day on Maui: Dusty is going to check out the Blow Hole with our roommate Erik and Drew

After a long day of travel from San Diego and a good night a sleep... we were ready to check out the island. Our friend & roommate Erik was nice enough to take off work to give us a tour of the westside of Maui. We were able to take a few pics. Hope you enjoy!

New House: Photo Album

Never in a million years would we have guessed how challenging it would be to find a place to live when you own a dog. But after 12 days of searching, finally... we found a house! And it is by far the best place we looked at. The house is 2 bedrooms / 2 baths and has a great lanai (wrap around deck) with an absolutly amazing oceanfront view of the neighboring islands. We will be moved in this Sunday!! Woo hoo!

We will be sharing the house with our friends Magen & Erik... rent is a little pricy, so every little thing helps.

Want a sneak peek?? Click here for photo's of the house:

MAUI ARRIVAL

On Wed., Feb. 2nd we arrived in Maui... a little ahead of schedule. Sato cleared quarantine almost minutes after he got off the plane! We couldn't believe how easy it was. We were then able to catch a much earlier flight to Maui.

Our friends Magen & Erik picked us up at the Maui airport in our car (my same Honda Element that drove us from Florida to California). It seems the car also arrived in Maui sooner than expected. It only took 10 days to ship it from Oakland to Maui... not bad! So it actually beat us there.

Magen & Erik were kind enough to let us stay at their apartment. The first few days went smoothly until a maintenance man came by for an inspection and saw Sato. Unfortunatly the apartment does not allow pets and Sato got the boot. So now Dusty & I are staying in the Lahaina Hostel... I think it is the only hotel in town under $300 a night that is willing to accept dogs.

We should hear tomorrow if we get approved to rent a 4 bedroom, 2 bath house! Keep your fingers crossed. If it doesn't go through, it is only because the owner is hesitant to have a dog there. But should it go through, we will be living with Magen & Erik, and one of Erik's friends he teaches with. So we will have one extra bedroom for guests! We'll keep you all posted.

On the job front, Dusty dropped off some resumes today and I am in the process of setting up my interview with DOE for a school counseling position. It looks like it may be the first week of March before I get my interview, so I may substitute teach in the mean time.

When we really get settled in, we will wrap up our Cross Country journal entries for Reno, South Lake Tahoe & San Diego. But in the mean time, a very big THANK YOU to our gracious hosts Aunt Freda & Frank in Reno, Lauren in Laguana Beach, and Lynne & Pat in San Diego. You all took such great care of us, and we love ya for it! :)
