2 Year Anniversary in Kauai

Dusty & Becca in Kauai

For our 2 year anniversary, we took a long weekend and went over to Kauai: the Garden Island. Wow!! Now we know why they call it that. Our friends, Wade & Marisa, were in town so they came with us. And you know a trip wouldn't be complete without the whole family, so Sato tagged along, too! We had an incredible time. The island is absolutely beautiful.... every where we went, we felt like we were in a rain forest.

Na Pali Coast Hike

Na Pali Coast, Kauai

Day 5 Kauai: We checked out the Na Pali Coast... you guessed it, totally amazing! This is actually the most famous hike in, not just Kauai, but all of Hawaii. The total hike is 11 miles, we did the first 2 miles, which took us to Hanakapi'ai Beach. Along the way we caught some awesome glimpses of the coastline. Wow!

Check out the photos, click here:

Sato had a few surprises in store for us today, too! We took him to Hanalei Bay and he retrieved a stick in the water for the first time. He was actually swimming on his own. We were so proud! If you would like to check him out, click here (may take a few minutes to download):

Hideaways & Ke'e Sunset

Dusty & Becca at Ke'e Beach sunset

Day 4 Kauai: Took the day to relax from our big adventure yesterday and hung out at a little beach called Hideaways near the Princeville Resort. Again, we can't complain. This island is great! For sunset we headed down the street from where we were staying and watched the sun go down at Ke'e Beach. Very pretty!

The East & South Coast of Kauai Adventure

Dusty & Becca in Hanalei, Kauai

Day 3 in Kauai: Decided that we should check out more of the island... which lead us on an adventure along the East and South coast. Saw great views of waterfalls, caught some surf at Gillin's Beach, enjoyed lunch in paradise, saw the Spouting Horn that gets its name because it actually makes a horn-like sound, played on a rope swing, and even caught some more surf on the East coast before calling it a day!! Whew... wears me out just thinking about it.

You got to check out the photos and see Marisa in action at the rope swing!! Very cool!

Day 2 in Kauai: We really can't complain. Kauai is amazing! The guys were on the search for more surf... which lead us to Anini Beach. It was a little bit of a "hike" to the beach. You'll have to check out the photos for that!

Day 7 & 8: Shopping & Haleakala Sunrise

Steve, Mom & Dusty at the Haleakala Sunrise

What trip would be complete with out a little shopping!!! Had to squeeze that in. And then on the final morning of their trip, we woke up at 2:30AM and headed in the car for the legendary Haleakala Sunrise. Haleakala is known as the House of the Sun, perhaps because the summit of Haleakala is 10,000 ft up. Sunrises are said to be comparable to a religous experience, that they will heal your soul, and rejuvenate the spirit!!! In short, they are said to be the best in the world. So we considered it a must-do while Mom & Steve were in town. So glad we did... it was awesome! If you are wondering why we are all bundled up in the pictures... that would be b/c at 10,000 feet, there is a slight change in temperature. That morning we were in 40 degree weather and it was windy!!!!!!!!!!!!! So yes, Maui can get cold.

Day 6: At work with Dusty

Dusty at work...

With all these action-packed days, it was time to take it easy. Mom & Steve decided to meet up with Dusty for lunch and go back and see his work site. Here you can check out where Dusty has been spending his days along Honolua Bay. If you have to work, this is not a bad view!!

Day 4 & 5: Iao Valley and the Road to Hana

Steve & Mom at Iao Valley

Exploring other parts of the island, we checked out Iao Valley. Iao Valley is the only rainforest on the west side of Maui. Very green and pretty! And then off on the road to Hana. Hana is on the East side of Maui and filled with all kinds of waterfalls & rainforests ... absolutely beautiful! Mom & Steve gave it the thumbs up!

Day 3: On the Boat with Becca

Becca hard at work!

Trying to keep things action-packed... Mom, Steve & Dusty all came out on Trilogy with Becca. If you ever wondered what a day like on the job is for Becca... here's your chance to take a peak. The trip starts in Maui, with a ride on a catamaran over to Lana'i. On this particular day we came across some Spinner Dolphins, which is always an added bonus! Once on Lanai, it's off on the van tour to see the only town on the island inhabited by 3,300 people. Pretty cool. From there, a few hours of free time on the beach where you can snorkel, hike, or sunbath. And then a bar-b-que lunch prepared by the captain. After lunch, you board the catamaran for a sail back to Maui. Whew... wears me out just thinking about it!
